It’s great that governments worldwide are relaxing the epidemic lock down rules. This of course creates a new challenge for facility managers, who will have to implement new protocols within their facilities.
Here at PivotCentral, we have been busy making new services available that will make it a little bit easier to implement social distancing. One problem our solution allows you to check and report on is desk usage and compliance with the social distancing rules.
The rule is that each employee desk has to be at least 2 meters apart. You can solve this by removing desks or putting red tape around them. This is time consuming and not very practical. The solution we propose is to tag every desk with an NFC Tag. The employee can than scan this tag when they use the desk. This will give you the necessary reporting on the 2 meter desk compliance, but will also tell which desks need to be deep cleaned by the cleaning crew.
The second item that worked was calling it a cleaning request. It’s a bit like putting out the “Service this room” hanger on a hotel room door.
Will staff comply? That is the question. Tagging the desk is easy and cheap but will not work if staff do not scan them. It’s our experience that for this to work, you need to give the employee an incentive to scan the tags. They need to know what’s in it for them. We found that two things work. First when the employee scans the tag they can see when the desk was last deep cleaned. The second item that worked was calling it a cleaning request. It’s a bit like putting out the “Service this room” hanger on a hotel room door.
You will never have 100% compliance but it is one way you can build the staff confidence needed to get working again in a busy office environment.
